After a crucial victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, the reigning world champion has dramatically closed the gap in the championship standings. Now sitting just a dozen points behind leader Lando Norris and in front of teammate Oscar Piastri, the scene is set for a electrifying three-way championship battle at the renowned Yas Marina Circuit.

Verstappen's Qatar win was not at all straightforward. Even though he delivered a flawless drive for his team, the race outcome was heavily influenced by a questionable strategic call from the Woking-based team. Opting to keep their cars out during an early safety car period, the team inadvertently handed the race lead to their rival, who pounced impeccably.

"I'm looking forward to it, I'm eager to go there and have a go at it," Verstappen commented. "My mindset is with just positive energy. I will give everything I can but simultaneously, even without the title, I still know that I had an incredible season."

This perspective according to him removes much of the weight of expectation. The aim for the last race is clear: to maximize each opportunity from himself and the machine.

An Improbable Comeback Fueled by Innovation and Unity.

The incredible part of this late-season charge so impressive is the distance he has come back. Following the Dutch Grand Prix in late August, he was a staggering 104 points behind the championship leader his rival and had openly dismissed his title chances.

The shift began with major technical upgrades introduced by Red Bull at the Italian Grand Prix. Modifications to the car's floor and front wing solved persistent balance issues, allowing Verstappen to push to the limit with the car once more.

Since that point, the results has been nothing short of dominant, racking up five victories and multiple podiums. He was quick to highlight the teamwork behind this success.

"We have achieved victories where maybe we shouldn't have, by making the correct decision as a group," he explained. "The way I work with my race engineer and the entire crew... we are perfectly synchronized."

The Scenario for a Memorable Finale.

With the paddock head to Abu Dhabi, the points situation is utterly compelling.

• Lando Norris will claim his debut world title if he outpaces both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a top-three position.
• Max Verstappen needs victory and needs that his rival places fourth or lower.
• The third contender, trailing by 16 points, has to win the race and see Norris finish sixth or worse.

The spotlight now shifts on McLaren, who have seen a sizable lead evaporate due to unfortunate events, including a double disqualification in Las Vegas. In his view, this position allows for liberation, transforming the final race into a simple chance to go for glory with zero pressure.
