Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
