When she went into the home, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Afterward, first responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held and denied bail.
Clarifications
The anonymous source questioned several previously reported details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
The source also disputed published notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's actions in the preceding period. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation includes descriptions of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source stated they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.

According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for some hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, stated his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until no sooner than Wednesday.
