Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
