Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, with one shot at him before running away.
The reason of the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a location near the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the property overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to determine their whereabouts," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the community to not sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.

In a statement, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will endure".
