Followers Urge Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are demanding that a person who leaped a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning several for best costume and production design.
